By John Beardsley, New York: Abbeville Press, 1984; second edition 1989; third edition 1998; fourth edition 2006.
Growing out of the Hirshhorn land art exhibition, the first edition of this book focused on avant-garde artists of the late sixties and seventies and their impact on subsequent urban public art projects. Later editions presented more ephemeral initiatives, artists as environmental activists, and the global impact of environmental art on the practice of landscape architecture.
“Beardsley is a superb guide to the burgeoning and sometimes baffling branch of the art world”
Bonnie Loyd, Landscape Architecture Magazine, Jan/Feb 1985
“Enormously useful and insightful”
Laughlin Fawcett, Landscape Architecture Magazine, July 1998
